Adding a hierarchy to an axis

You can add a hierarchy to the grid to view the results split out against the members of the hierarchy. The hierarchies are all present in the Dimensions window. From there you can add them to the grid either by dragging the to the grid or by selecting the corresponding option in the hierarchy context menu.

Note: you can only drag hierarchies from a dimensions window to a grid that belong to the same data source

Adding a hierarchy by dragging

To drag a hierarchy to the grid, click on the hierarchy name in the dimensions window and start dragging it.

When the dragged hierarchy is above a dropzone, the dropzone will be marked by a rectangle.

When dragging, you can:

place a hierarchy before another hierarchy on the axis (figure 1)
place a hierarchy over another hierarchy, thus replacing it (figure 2)
place a hierarchy after another hierarchy on the axis (figure 3)

Adding a hierarchy through the context menu

You can also add a hierarchy from the dimensions window by right-clicking on the hierarchy and selecting Add to columns or Add to rows, depending on which axis you want to add the hierarchy to. If you add a hierarchy to the axis using the menu it will always be placed after the last hierarchy on the axis.

Removing a hierarchy by dragging

A hierarchy can be removed from the grid by clicking on the hierarchy button on an axis and dragging it anywhere outside of the grid.

A cross cursor will appear over the button when it is in an area where dropping it will remove it from the grid.

Removing a hierarchy through the context menu

To remove a hierarchy through the context menu, right click on the hierarchy button in the grid and select Remove from axis (or Add to <axis> if you want to move it to a different axis).
