Docking and undocking windows

Most windows can be docked within the document. This allows you to embed frequently used windows within the working space of the report.

Docking uses drag and drop. Dragging can be initiated in the title area of a window or on a window's corresponding tab (when hidden).

Docking a window

To dock a window start dragging the title or tab of the window to (re)dock.

In the middle of the screen (see figure 1) and on the 4 sides,  a guide appears.

Figure 1

If you move the mouse to a specific guide it causes the guide to highlight and a blue shaded region to appear, representing the destination of the window if you release the mouse button there.

In this example the chart will be docked on the right side of the main window.

Making a docked window floating

A window is floated if it isn't docked to a another window. You can, for instance, make a window float by dragging it from the window it was docked to. Another way to make a window float is to double-click its title area. If the window's caption is double-clicked again, the window is restored to its previous position. You can also use the CTRL key when performing docking operations. When this key is pressed, the window cannot be docked to a window if it is dropped.

Canceling a docking operation

The current docking operation can be canceled by pressing the ESC key. The window remains in the same position and the frame indicating its potential position disappears.

Auto-hide windows

Windows can be automatically minimized to a tab when the mouse leaves the area occupied by the window. This feature is called auto-hide. To auto-hide a window, click on the button in the title area of the window. The window will be hidden and a tab will be displayed with the title of the window on the edge where the window was docked.

By hovering the mouse on the tab, the window reappears. By moving the mouse outside of the window area it minimizes to a tab again.

You can remove auto-hiding of the window by clicking on the button in the window's title area.

To close a window, click on the button in the title area.
