Very large hierarchies

When working with very large hierarchies, some features will add considerable overhead that will cause DataWarehouse Explorer to perform slowly.

To overcome this, the hierarchy can be marked as "huge".

Marking a hierarchy as huge can be done in the hierarchy editor by:

Selecting the Treat as Huge item from the Options menu

When a hierarchy is marked as huge the following features are disabled:

1.Smart Selection
Smart selection is always turned off, regardless if the hierarchy is located on an axis or not.
2.Expand selection on open.
Normally, when a hierarchy editor is opened, the tree (if the hierarchy consists of multiple levels) will be expanded so that all selected members in the tree are visible. This is turned off when huge, meaning that the tree will always be fully collapsed when opened.

Note: When the above features are off, it may appear as if a hierarchy doesn't have any items selected when opened, even when a selection is in effect. This is because the tree isn't expanded. Open the advanced pane to view the full selection.
