Cube dictionary

The cube dictionary window provides insight into the structure of a cube. The cube is represented as a tree. If the cube has been provided with descriptions for cube elements, it can serve as a reference to learn and lookup the meaning of cube objects.

Opening the cube dictionary

To open the cube dictionary click on the ribbon.

If the report contains multiple data sources an extra toolbar will be displayed containing a drop down in which you can select the source that will be displayed within this window.

Searching for cube elements

The cube can contain many different objects. Browsing through the tree can be time consuming and tedious if you do not know exactly where the object you are looking for is located. To speed things up, you can use the search function. To search for an object, type the (partial) name of the object in the text box at the top and click the button or press return. This will open a new list with the search results. Clicking on a result in the list will cause the focus in the cube tree to jump to the corresponding element. To remove all search results, click the command.

Viewing object descriptions

The description of each object, if provided, can be displayed next to the object in the window. To display the descriptions, click the command.

We encourage entering descriptions for cube objects, that way the cube dictionary provides a nice reference in which the meaning of objects can be quickly looked up.

Viewing object properties

You can view the properties for each cube object by clicking on the command. This will open a properties pane. Clicking on an object in the tree will display the properties in the properties pane. Clicking on the command again will close the properties pane.

Print cube diagram

You can print the diagram by clicking on the button. This will open a preview window from which the actual printing can be performed.
