The data source diagnostics window allows you to retrieve a vast amount of information regarding a specific data source or the source's analysis server itself.

The information in the diagnostics window is not intended for regular users, it should be used by advanced users or administrators only who need to diagnose connection or performance issues.

To open the diagnostics window, click the button in the data sources toolbar.

This show a window like the following:

From the data sources drop down box, you can select the data source for which you want to retrieve the information.

From the information drop down box, you can select the type of information you want to retrieve. The available information depends on the version of the Analysis server, later version will often be able to display more kinds of information.

Some kinds of information require that you provide values for a number of parameters, in these cases you will be prompted to enter the values in a dialog.

It is beyond the scope of this document to describe the types of information available and the optional and required parameters that you can be prompted for when trying to retrieve them. To find more information on an information type, for example MDSCHEMA_MEASURES, search for MDSCHEMA_MEASURES on http://msdn.microsoft.com/.

The results can be exported to an Excel, Html or text file by pressing the Export... button.
